First Timers

Grab a first timer’s package

This includes a beginner’s lift pass, rental and a lesson.  It’s designed to get you up and going on your skis or board with a little help from one of our highly trained snow instructors.  Lesson numbers are limited so get in quick.

Our first timers package includes;

• Beginner’s lift pass
• Rental equipment – Skis, boots and poles or snowboard and boots
• First timer’s 1 ½ hour lesson

Group lesson times: 10:30am & 1:30pm

Minimum ages: The minimum age for a child to join a group ski lesson is 5 years and a group snowboard lesson is 8 years.

Take a lesson

When you’re getting your lift pass, why not book in for a lesson as well.  Group lessons and private lessons are available throughout the day with our highly trained snow instructors.  Whatever your ability, they’ll help you improve.

What to wear

We are known for being a super sunny ski field but remember you’re in an alpine environment and staying warm and dry is key to enjoying your day.

• Boots or shoes with a bit of tread as snow and ice can be slippery before you get your ski or snowboard boots on
• Base layers of merino, thermal or polar fleece – numerous layers that you can take off as you warm up and cool down throughout the day
• Warm, waterproof pants and jacket (we do not have clothing for hire, however there is a small selection available at Kiwi Treasures in the Tekapo Village)
• Water proof gloves
• Goggles or sunglasses
• A helmet
• Sunscreen and lip balm

Ski and Snowboard hire

You can hire all your equipment from us on the mountain. We hire helmets, skis, boots, poles and snowboards and boots from our base facility.  We have hundreds of sets of ski and snowboard equipment for all ages and abilities.  Our friendly staff will guide you through getting the right fit.

Food

Remember to keep yourself fed and hydrated, when you’re having so much fun you forget how much exercise you’re actually doing!

Have a bit of fun with a toboggan

We hire toboggans so bring your picnic, the family and enjoy a few slides on our purpose built slope!

Driving – self-drive or Ski Shuttle

Please always carry snow chains as you’re driving in an alpine environment and be ready to fit them if required.  Chains must be fitted to all 2WD vehicles if the snow chains indicator sign is out.

Or, save yourself the time and book our daily ski shuttle from Tekapo Village on 021 680 694, then you can just sit back and enjoy the spectacular drive.  The shuttle departs at 8am from the Tekapo Village and leaves Roundhill at 4:15pm.
